French C18th oak Boulogne armoire with later carved peasant scenes.

This magnificent 18th-century French Provincial buffet à deux corps (buffet with two bodies) is a masterclass in regional craftsmanship and narrative artistry. Crafted from solid, richly grained European oak, this statement piece features a classic "chapeau de gendarme" (gendarme's hat) arched crown molding over a recessed upper cabinet, perfectly balanced on a spacious two-door lower sideboard.
While the substantial oak framework dates back to the 1700s, the piece truly comes alive through its masterfully hand-carved relief panels, which were artfully added at a later date. Each door serves as a visual canvas, capturing charming scenes of French provincial folk life. The upper panels depict lively celebrations with villagers dancing and musicians playing the violin, while the lower panels showcase intimate courtyard interactions and traditional regional dress.
Accented with authentic, long iron espagnolette hardware and elegant cabriole legs, this Boulogne armoire blends historical architecture with sculptural folk art. It offers exceptional storage while serving as an unforgettable focal point for a dining room, living space, or grand entryway
