Mid-Century French Floral Still Life – Oil on Double-Sided Artist Board
Bring a touch of the French countryside into your home with this authentic mid-century still-life oil painting. Sourced from a regional French market, this captivating piece features a rustic bouquet of pink and coral carnations arranged in a traditional patterned ceramic vase. A small, sage-green book rests alongside the vase, infusing the scene with a cozy, intellectual "dark academia" charm.
What makes this artwork exceptionally special is its history. Painted on a rigid artist board, the reverse side reveals faint, ghosted outlines of an entirely different composition from a previous studio session. This practice of reversing boards was highly common among twentieth-century French art students and regional painters working creatively within limited resources, making it a true conversational centerpiece with layers of hidden history.
Housed in its original, wide-profile natural oak mitered frame, this painting balances Post-Impressionist loose brushwork with an earthy, neutral palette. It is an effortless addition to a gallery wall, mantle display, or vintage-inspired office.
